For as long as I can remember, I’ve described myself as a lazy person. I mean, I’m just about always down to relax and take a load off. Manual labor has never been of interest to me, so I pretty much avoid it when and where I can.

Because I’m lazy… right? Or is it possible there’s a deeper explanation for my behavior – one that’s more aligned with God’s original design for me?

A truth I’ve been wrestling with lately is that we tend to mislabel ourselves. This world feeds off of negativity. So unfortunately, it’s easy to absorb that energy and judge ourselves harshly – without ever digging deeper and asking God for his perspective of us.

So in my case, the easiest and most obvious explanation is that I’m lazy. Why else do I love lingering in bed? Or why I prefer being cooked for rather than cooking for myself? And don’t even get me started on how I can’t wait until I’m able to hire a cleaning company.

But when I looked beyond what the natural eye could see and got curious about my behavior, I discovered something different.

I realized I’d been focusing on my behavior instead of my motivation.

The truth is that I am naturally drawn to peace, ease, rest, and comfort. I’m pretty sure the term “soft life” was created for me. I am fueled by slow mornings. Soft blankets. Coloring books. And coziness.

But the enemy loves distortion.

He doesn’t have to remove the good things God placed inside of us.

He simply has to convince us that they’re flaws.

So peace becomes laziness.

Gentleness becomes weakness.

Curiosity becomes overthinking.

Sensitivity becomes “too emotional.” The list goes on.

And hear me out, I’m not at all saying there haven’t been plenty of times where I could have used my time and resources more wisely. There are certainly areas where I can grow in discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance. But understanding that God created me to appreciate ease allows me to see myself more accurately and pursue peace without letting comfort become an idol.

So maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to negatively judge ourselves. And instead, get curious about God’s original intentions for why we are the way we are.

Because I can’t help but wonder how many parts of ourselves we’ve mislabeled simply because we’ve never invited God into the conversation. Maybe what we’ve been calling flaws are places where the enemy has distorted the truth of who we are. Or maybe God wants to reveal something deeper, just like he did for me.

So this week, I want to encourage you to get curious. Bring your habits, your personality, your strengths, and even the parts of yourself you’ve always criticized into your 1:1 time with God. Ask him to show you what he sees.

You might be surprised to discover that the parts of yourself you’ve spent years trying to fix aren’t flaws at all. Maybe they’re qualities God intentionally placed within you that he wants to refine, not remove. And perhaps they’ll play a bigger role in your purpose than you ever imagined.

Lately, I’ve found myself wanting to rush something.

I wish I could tell you I’ve mastered waiting on God, but I haven’t. In fact, I think God is teaching me the same lesson all over again.

A few months ago, I was very unhappy with my job. For about 6 months, I found myself internally miserable at work.

I felt that I had outgrown my current situation and was ready for something completely new. So I began putting in applications elsewhere.

For “some reason,” I knew my journey was leading me towards becoming a full-time nanny. But I wasn’t finding any families that matched my needs, and wasn’t hearing back from the families that did. It seemed as if the more nothing happened with the job search, the more miserable I was becoming in my present job.

I spent weeks looking for new employment and became borderline desperate. This desperation led me to almost being scammed by a family. That’s the moment it dawned on me – I was attempting to operate outside of God’s timing.

You see, I’m a firm believer that what God has for me is for me. And no one can change that. So the fact that I wasn’t getting a clear yes could only mean God was calling for me to be still, for a reason that was completely unknown to me at the time.

So I stopped.

Not because I suddenly loved my job.

Not because my circumstances changed.

But because I realized that if God wasn’t opening the door yet, there was still something for me to learn where I was.

And I didn’t just stop looking for employment, I also stopped being content with being miserable every day.

I began to show up to work every day with intention. I let go of the bitterness that was keeping me from being fully present. During this time, a deeper connection was made between my clients and me, and I was no longer getting so deeply affected by things that were beyond my control.

I even began to speak up and use my voice more, which helped me to create new evidence that dismantled a major negative core belief.

Not long after, God gave me the go-ahead to move forward with becoming a full-time nanny. He gave me a front row seat as to why his timing is always better than mine.

If I had transitioned prematurely, I would not have experienced the transformation that God already had planned for me. I had a graceful exit from my old job that I couldn’t have planned better myself.

That was about 2 months ago, and now I’m facing another situation where I want things to move faster.

When frustration and impatience start knocking at my door, I practice the spiritual discipline of remembering. Because sometimes we don’t need a new word from God; we need to remember the last thing he did.

I still don’t know how this current season will unfold. But I do know what God did in the last one.

And if his timing was perfect then, I have reason to believe it’s perfect now.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always walked with my head down.

I don’t mean that figuratively. I mean literally – while walking, I am looking at the ground. For years now.

I’m sure we could have a whole psychology lesson as to why that’s the case, and I could probably even pinpoint its origin, but that’s not the purpose of this blog post.

I’m here because I have tea, and obviously I’m gonna spill it. #girlsgirl

About a month ago, God laid it on my heart to start walking with my head up.

Again, I mean that literally. He shared that he no longer wants me to look at the ground while walking, and instead, pick my head up and look forward.

Now we’re talking about undoing YEARS of ingrained behavior. So, naturally, I have not executed this change perfectly.

But hear me when I tell you this.

When I DO remember to lift my head while walking, I can feel my confidence being restored and that pesky fear of inadequacy being broken off of me.

Girl that is so much tea like thank you Jesus!!!

I mean, he knows exactly how to fill in the gap. I’m sure there are probably tons of videos online telling women to walk with their heads up. But Jesus came to me – right where I was. He loves me so much that he and all his mightiness took the time to tell me something so simple, yet so effective: Pick up your head.

Whew, I had to get that out.

But girl, I really hope you give this a shot for the sake of your confidence in who you are in Christ.

We are daughters of the Most High. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are God’s special possession. And I believe that in this season, God wants us to act and walk like it.

We have been slaves to the fear of inadequacy for far too long my love. It is time for us to realign ourselves with the truth of who God says we are.

And that truth is not meant to stay with us in our quiet, individual time with God.

Stop because I just preached.

Girl. Let me say it again, a different way.

The revelation that you have about who God says you are is meant to be lived boldly in every area of your life.

And I believe with all my heart that walking with our heads high is only a seed. And that seed will grow and produce an abundant amount of fruit.

A few nights ago I had a dream about some old high school classmates.

The night before that, I had a dream about an old family member whom I’d rather not be dreaming about.

And girl. I’ve been having dreams about these people for years.

But this time was different.

The first dream ruined my entire day. Literally. And it wasn’t even the dream itself that was on my mind! But I literally had a bad day. And I know it started with that dream.

When I woke up from the second dream on the second night, I remember feeling curious.

Curious as to why it’s been many years, and I’m living a completely different life, yet I’m still dreaming about people from my past.

So I asked God what’s the tea.

And girl…… he clocked it.

He revealed to me that how I view people today is based on the negative experiences I had with people in my childhood.

I was like wow. So true.

That word really blessed me. Not only did it provide insight as to why I have these dreams, but it’s also helping to shine a light on what’s living inside me that I need to be healed and delivered from.

And that’s where I’m at in this season.

I want nothing more than for God to purify my heart.

Psalm 139:23-24 says,

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

That is my prayer for myself. I believe this season of my life will require me to let God tend to the root of my thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.

And if I may, I want to encourage you to do the same.

It won’t be easy. In fact, I think it might be one of the most humbling experiences of our lives. But when we pay attention, we can see that God is doing a new thing. I believe that this is the season that God is going to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think – assuming that we’re willing to do the hard, but necessary work of looking within.

So again I ask, what’s been living inside you? Sit with that question and bring it into your 1:1 time with God. I’m praying for you and your journey towards being made whole.

Creative has never been a word I’ve used to describe myself.

In fact, creativity, or the lack thereof, has actually been a source of insecurity for me my entire life.

That was a gloomy start, but there’s a point, I promise – just stay with me.

I put my Christmas tree up last week, and had about 3 packs of leftover ornaments. And one thing about me, I do not like wasting my money. So I knew I had to figure out something to do with those 3 packs.

When looking at the ornaments yesterday, I decided I’d search “what to do with leftover ornaments” on YouTube. But as I was typing this into the search box, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to get off of YouTube and figure it out myself.

At first, I gaslit myself into thinking I was tripping, and continued with the search. But the uneasiness in my spirit wouldn’t go away; so after watching one video that wasn’t at all helpful, I closed out the YouTube app.

For a split second, I contemplated making a balloon arch out of the ornaments, though I have no idea how to do that, so it would’ve required me to get back on YouTube.

I knew I wanted the ornaments to be somewhere in the kitchen. And after a few minutes, the perfect idea came to me.

*Click play below to see how I styled the ornaments in the kitchen*

Not only was I through the roof happy because the ornaments looked beautiful on my cabinet handles, but I could not believe that I came up with this idea by myself. Again, it’s always been a core belief of mine that I’m not creative. So it was a Christmas miracle that I thought of this.

For me, this moment was yet another reassurance that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me. That everything I need, I already have; I just have to look within. Besides… how could I not be creative when I was created in the image of God – the creator of the Universe?

I felt my inner child smiling in this moment. God really is a restorer and can’t NOBODY spin the block like him!

That moment reminded me that God doesn’t just show up in big miracles. He’s present in the simple, ordinary things too. From leftover ornaments to creative ideas, he’s always showing us what’s possible when we trust him over the noise. So the next time you find yourself doubting what you can do, remember: the Creator lives in you. You already have everything you need.

Want to hear a beautiful truth?

Just because a thought enters your brain doesn’t make it true.

I’m sure you know that logically, but do you ever remind yourself of that in the moment you might need to the most?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been reminding myself of that fact. Specifically, when anxious thoughts slither their way into my brain.

“That’s just anxiety.”

Three simple, yet effective words that have had a huge impact on my mental health lately.

Shining light on the reality of anxiety and its presence in real-time has really lessened the power that it has over me.

The more I say it, the more peace I feel. It’s like telling my mind, “Hey, I see you, but you don’t get to run the show today.”

If you struggle with anxious thoughts, try giving yourself that same reminder. You might be surprised how freeing it feels to call anxiety out for what it is – and choose truth instead.

Work has really been kicking my butt lately.

About two weeks ago, the work day was coming to an end, and I kept finding myself saying, “I need something, but I don’t know what I need, and that’s what’s frustrating me.” Surely you’ve felt that way before, right? That feeling of being a bit uneasy inside, but unsure of how to settle your spirit? That’s where I was.

My weekday evenings are usually pretty busy, especially since I try to be in the bed by 10pm. Thankfully, my workout partner was out of town, so I knew I wasn’t going to the gym right after work, which is my typical routine. No, I do not work out without my partner yet.

Since there was no workout that day, it left me with about an hour of “free time” before my next scheduled weekday task. I stepped outside onto the balcony and took a look at my new egg chair, which I am absolutely obsessed with, and decided to grab popcorn and my laptop and do some work outside.

As it turns out, that’s exactly what I needed.

A moment to breathe in fresh air, eat my favorite snack, in my current favorite piece of furniture.

Peace found me in the quiet.

So my friend, next time your spirit is feeling a bit unsettled, try slowing down. Pay attention to the direction that God is naturally leading you to. I believe my workout being canceled that day was certainly ordained by my daddy in heaven. Otherwise, I would’ve continued with my regularly scheduled program and never taken the necessary time to slow down and just breathe.

Have you ever felt like what God is asking of you is way out of your league? If so, let me assure you right now that you are not alone in that feeling.

As much as I love Uniquely Everything, I often find myself thinking that I’m way in over my head. I mean, I’m just me – I’m just Neveria. How am I supposed to use my voice to transform lives? Better yet – who cares what I have to say? But each and every time these thoughts appear, I’m reminded of my good friend Moses. More on him below.

Why God’s Plans Can Feel Overwhelming

I believe it’s important for us to remember exactly who we’re talking about when we say ‘God.‘ He is the creator of the universe. He is I Am. He’s the King of kings. He lets us know that his thoughts are not our thoughts and our ways are not his ways. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9.

With that understanding at the forefront of our minds, it makes sense that God’s plans stretch us beyond our comfort zones.

In my case, I’m not the biggest fan of sharing my thoughts and/or beliefs with people. This stems from my own insecurities and fears of being misunderstood and rejected. So it makes absolutely no sense that I have a blog and a YouTube channel that require such vulnerability from me – until we factor in God’s calling on my life and the desire he’s placed in me to help others. What feels uncomfortable to me in the natural is actually purposeful in the spiritual.

Trusting God Over Your Own Strength

Now, back to my good friend Moses.

God appeared to Moses through the burning bush and informed him that he’d be used to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. Moses basically hit God with the “Come again?” He began to give God excuses as to why he wasn’t the person for the job, as if God had made a mistake in choosing him, and ultimately asked God to send someone else instead.

It’s tempting to want to judge Moses for his response to God’s call. But if we’re to be honest, a lot of us have also attempted to run from God’s plan, especially when the plan shines light on our deep need to truly and fully depend on him.

Moses eventually surrenders to the will of God and becomes the person God uses to lead Israel out of bondage, proving that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.

This story is a reminder that carrying out the will of our Father isn’t about feeling qualified, but about trusting that the one who called us is faithful. Just as he told Moses, I believe God wants each of us to truly know that he’s with us. Where we see weaknesses, God sees opportunities for transformation – for ourselves and others. I wonder how our worlds will change if we fully surrender to the will of God and trust him with our lives.

Practical Ways to Trust God’s Vision

The fact is the fact – God’s overall vision can be highkey intimidating. But something I’ve noticed that helps me to take a big exhale is to break the vision down into small, faithful steps.

I can’t begin to tell you what all goes into making sure you’re able to read this post, purchase this ebook, enjoy YouTube shorts, and everything in between. But focusing solely on the task in front of me makes it all more manageable and less intimidating.

And how do you determine what needs to be the task in front of you? By praying and surrendering.

In the very beginning, when I received the vision of having my own blog, I jumped straight in, leaning on my own understanding. I spent 2.5 years building something that I would eventually tear down and rebuild from scratch, once I humbled myself enough to ask God what his vision was for UE.

I was a bit hesitant to include that above paragraph because I don’t want you to get stuck obsessing over whether what you’re doing is “right or wrong.” Again, God is faithful. Learn to live in that truth. He knows how to take our missteps and turn them into the step stool that lifts us closer to His purpose.

All of that to say, God didn’t get it wrong when he chose you. Being intimidated by the vision means you have a constant reminder that you cannot do this without God, which is the perfect place to be.

As much as you can and with all of your heart, include him. Lean on him. Trust him. Follow him step by step and watch how he turns what feels impossible into something beautiful.

We all have moments where trusting God feels harder than it should. What’s one area where you’re learning to rely on him instead of your own strength? Share in the comments, I’d love to read your story!

I used to think that struggling mentally meant something was wrong with my faith. I didn’t hear many people say otherwise – especially not in church. But over time, I’ve learned that you can love Jesus deeply and still battle in your mind. Let’s talk about it.

Watch the Full Episode Below:

Want more honest faith convos? Browse the full Faith Unfiltered series.

I love Jesus.

I read my bible, pray, and talk to God daily. And still… I’ve had seasons where my mind felt heavy, anxious, or just tired.

For a long time, I thought those two things couldn’t exist at the same time – that if I was mentally struggling, I must not be spiritually strong. That if I really trusted God, I wouldn’t feel this way.

But that’s a lie. And I think a lot of us have been carrying it quietly.

The truth is: you can love God and still struggle with your mental health. And that doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.

The bible is filled with stories of people who deeply loved God – and also felt overwhelmed, isolated, depressed, or unsure. David, Elijah, Job, even Jesus in the garden… their emotions were real, and God never rejected them for it.

In this video, I’m sharing that I realized my mental battles don’t disqualify my closeness with God – they’re a space where He meets me.

So if you’ve ever felt like your anxiety or mental lows mean you’re somehow failing at faith, I hope this conversation gives you room to breathe. You’re not alone and you’re certainly not loved any less.

Have you ever felt like your emotions disqualified you from being close to God? Let’s talk in the comments.

We love to say, “I know better, so I’ll do better.”
But what happens when you know better — and still find yourself stuck?

That’s exactly where I found myself not too long ago — in a season where I wanted to prioritize God, but just… didn’t.

Wanting to Move, but Feeling Stuck

In my mind, I knew what I should have been doing.
I knew I should’ve been praying more.
I knew I should’ve been walking fully in my calling.

But physically, emotionally — I just wasn’t moving.
And it was one of the strangest, most frustrating seasons I’ve walked through.

There were moments I even called myself “a lost cause.”
But God..

The Reminder I Needed: Romans 7

This season reminded me so much of Paul’s words in Romans 7 — especially in the MSG version.

“The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.”
— Romans 7:25 MSG
