How God Reminded Me I’m More Creative Than I Thought
Creative has never been a word I’ve used to describe myself.
In fact, creativity, or the lack thereof, has actually been a source of insecurity for me my entire life.
That was a gloomy start, but there’s a point, I promise – just stay with me.
I put my Christmas tree up last week, and had about 3 packs of leftover ornaments. And one thing about me, I do not like wasting my money. So I knew I had to figure out something to do with those 3 packs.
When looking at the ornaments yesterday, I decided I’d search “what to do with leftover ornaments” on YouTube. But as I was typing this into the search box, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to get off of YouTube and figure it out myself.
At first, I gaslit myself into thinking I was tripping, and continued with the search. But the uneasiness in my spirit wouldn’t go away; so after watching one video that wasn’t at all helpful, I closed out the YouTube app.
For a split second, I contemplated making a balloon arch out of the ornaments, though I have no idea how to do that, so it would’ve required me to get back on YouTube.
I knew I wanted the ornaments to be somewhere in the kitchen. And after a few minutes, the perfect idea came to me.

Not only was I through the roof happy because the ornaments looked beautiful on my cabinet handles, but I could not believe that I came up with this idea by myself. Again, it’s always been a core belief of mine that I’m not creative. So it was a Christmas miracle that I thought of this.
For me, this moment was yet another reassurance that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me. That everything I need, I already have; I just have to look within. Besides… how could I not be creative when I was created in the image of God – the creator of the Universe?
I felt my inner child smiling in this moment. God really is a restorer and can’t NOBODY spin the block like him!
That moment reminded me that God doesn’t just show up in big miracles. He’s present in the simple, ordinary things too. From leftover ornaments to creative ideas, he’s always showing us what’s possible when we trust him over the noise. So the next time you find yourself doubting what you can do, remember: the Creator lives in you. You already have everything you need.
